Canada's Olympic Medal Winners: Roll Call of Honour

A big congratulations to Adam van Koeverden for winning the silver medal today in the K-1 500 at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He had a rather poor showing yesterday in the 1000 metres which makes the silver medal an even sweeter victory. "It was a great moment and the feeling is mostly relief," Van Koeverden told CBC Sports. "Yesterday, I just didn’t feel like myself. Today, I was climbing back up, getting it back a little bit, but that last 200 still didn’t feel like me. It was a struggle, a well-fought struggle, and I’m really, really happy."

According to the CBC Van Koeverden had a "commanding lead for most of the race but, with about ten metres remaining, he was edged out by former training partner, Australian Ken Wallace." Van Koeverden explains: "I just focused on relaxing for the first half so I could have a big second half. In hindsight, maybe I didn’t relax enough in the first half. But I was excited and, honestly, I just wanted to get it done. And, that’s what I did."
