Paul Wesley: Taking a bite out of prime time, this fall, in the CW's Vampire Diaries

Vampires are back in a big way, thanks to the hit movie, Twilight, and the HBO TV series, True Blood. The latest TV show to feature sexy blood suckers is the CW's The Vampire Diaries which premieres at 8:00 PM on September 10th. The hottie factor of the two male leads just might get me to check the show out. The Vampire Diaries stars two of my favourite actors, Ian Somerhalder (he played Boone on ABC's Lost) and Paul Wesley (pictured), whom I remember from Wolf Lake, which was a failed 2001 CBS TV series about a town of werewolves. At that time, Paul Wesley was billed as Paul Wasilewski (his real name). No matter the name, I never forget a handsome face (woof!). Hopefully, once The Vampire Diaries airs, neither will TV audiences.

In the following excerpt, People magazine does its part to help make Paul Wesley a household name.

Via People:
Edward Cullen, Bill Compton … and Stefan Salvatore? There's a new vampire in Tinseltown and he's got the looks and chops – literally! – to give Robert Pattinson a run for his money.

Don't Call Him an Edward Cullen Wannabe
The Vampire Diaries follows 150-year-old vampire Stefan [Paul Wesley] as he falls for a teen girl named Elena (played by Degrassi's Nina Dobrev). Sound familiar? Paul Wesley assured us that the show is not a "Twilight rip-off." The teen book series was actually published a decade before Stephenie Meyer's wildly-successful Twilight saga, and features an added twist – Stefan battles his villainous vampire brother Damon (played by Lost hunk Ian Somerhalder) for Elena's heart.

He Never Wanted to Be an Actor
Growing up, the New Jersey native was more of a jock than a thespian. "I played ice hockey obsessively for 14 years of my life," he said. After being forced into doing school plays, Paul Wesley hired an agent "as a fluke" and successfully began landing roles. "I got very lucky and I don't know how."

He Has Fangs … Sort Of
"You'd think it would have [helped get me the role] but they didn't notice it until I was on set," Paul Wesley said of his naturally pointy teeth. "Then they all were like, 'Oh my god, what are the odds?!'"

He's the Coolest Big Brother Ever
Paul Wesley counts his two youngest sisters, ages 11 and 13, as his biggest fans. "They have read all of the The Vampire Diaries books," he said. "They are my only fans actually. Them and my mom."
