Watch: Nyle DiMarco performs a same-sex Tango on last night's "Dancing with the Stars"

In April 2008, ABC's hit dance competition TV show, "Dancing with the Stars" featured actor Steve Guttenberg and professional dancer Jonathan Roberts performing the Tango (see video below). Promoted by the program as a comedy bit, the show called the dance routine between the two men the "mango". Ugh. There is nothing inherently comic about two men dancing together. I said at that time: "WTF? Homo-friendly or homo-phobic?"

Now, eight years later, on last night's episode of "Dancing with the Stars" (season 22) we witnessed Nyle DiMarco, Keo Motsepe, Jodie Sweetin and Peta Murgatroyd dancing the Argentine Tango as same-sex couples. The crowd loved it when Sweetin and Murgatroyd paired off and then wildly cheered as DiMarco and Motsepe embraced and danced the Tango together!

Amazingly the Mirror Ball didn't crash to the floor and the world didn't come to an end last night. And I don't think it would have happened eight years ago, either.

What do you think about last night's show?

Who is Nyle DiMarco?
DiMarco rose to prominence in 2015 when he won the 22nd season of "America's Next Top Model". DiMarco is the second deaf contestant to appear on "Dancing with the Stars" (Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin was the first in Season 6). When asked last year about his sexual orientation, the handsome star told Out magazine that he was 'sexually fluid'.
