"I'm not satisfied with what happened," said Erik Rozenski, adding he believed Michael Gordon, 23, of Richmond Hill should have been sentenced to jail. The suspended sentence with two years of probation given to Gordon will be looked at by activists for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community who will decide whether they will ask the Crown to appeal.
Gordon pleaded guilty this week to the Sept. 27 assault on Rozenski near Richmond Row. The court heard Gordon was drunk and has no memory of what happened "Whether somebody is intoxicated or not doesn't justify their actions whatsoever," Rozenski said.
Michelle Boyse, president of Diversity Training Live and a member of a group that defends the rights of gays, bisexuals and transsexuals, said the court's decision was "unsatisfactory." Hate crimes and the motivation behind hate is such a large issue within the city of London," she said. "These events are happening on a day-to-day basis and unreported to police.
