WATCH: Gay Athlete Matt Lister As He Preps for Sexy "Attitude" Cover

Matt Lister, 24, is a champion canoeist. In 2015, Lister, along with David Hill (a Paralympian in the sport of triathlon) became the British Athletics Commission's first LGB ambassadors. Lister said of the honor: “After working with Stonewall to visit schools, educating students about LGBT issues, it is a huge privilege to be able to continue similar work amongst my sporting peers. I have always been proud to represent my country as an athlete, but the fact that the BAC is the first sport organisation in the UK to provide an LGB ambassadorial position and service of this level, is mind blowing. BAC are leading the way yet again, it won’t be long before we are followed I’m sure.”

Attitude Magazine:
The 24-year-old, who came out publicly as gay in 2012, says that sportsmen still have a responsibility to be open about their sexuality for the sake of others still struggling for acceptance. “I would never shame someone for not coming out because it’s a personal choice and it’s a difficult thing to go through, but I feel as if it’s a necessity for the LGBT community because you’re in the public eye”, Matt says. “People are watching you, even people who aren’t involved in sport that maybe want to get into it, but they don’t try because they think it doesn’t fit them.”
